Wondering which sires are used the most this year?

Below is a list of the sires released by the ICBF with the most serves recorded in the first half of 2019 from 1st January to the 30th June 2019. This does not take into account DIY or AI technicians who do not use the ICBF Handhelds so serves so his actual usage will be higher in reality.

10 of the top 10 Dairy on Dairy Sires are Progressive Genetics (NCBC) bulls.

From Table 1 above, the most highly used ‘dairy on dairy’ sire in the first half of this year is (IG) Diamond Anton FR2239. ‘Anton’ has 33,398 AI handheld serves recorded in the first half of this year. Second on the list is (IG) Nextgen Eimer 557 FR2460. There have been 31,088 AI handheld serves recorded from ‘Eimer’ in the first half of 2019. Third on the list is (IG) Olcastletown Ronald FR2298. ‘Ronaldo’ has 30,096 AI handheld serves recorded in the first half of 2019.

Many of these sires are involved in the fresh programme which allows us to get the best semen out to our service using AI customers.

 

10 of the top 10 Beef on Dairy Sires are Progressive Genetics (NCBC) bulls.

From Table 2 above, the most highly used ‘beef on dairy’ sire so far this year is Solpoll 1 Kentucky Kid P HYF HE2043. ‘Kentucky Kid’ has 10,373 AI handheld serves recorded in the first half of this year in dairy herds. He has a calving difficulty figure of 3.2%. Second on the list is Manitou DBZ. There have been 9,538 AI handheld serves recorded from ‘Manitou’ in dairy herds in the first half of 2019. He has a calving difficulty figure of 7.6%. Third on the list is Cornamuckla Lord Hardy K222 KYA. ‘KYA’ has 8,810 AI handheld serves recorded in dairy herds in the first half of 2019. 

8 of the top 10 Beef on Beef Sires are Progressive Genetics (NCBC) bulls, including no.1, no.2, no.3 & no.4!

From Table 3 above, the most highly used ‘beef on beef’ sire so far this year is Limousin sire Castleview Gazelle ZAG. ‘ZAG’ has 8,701 ‘beef on beef’ AI handheld serves recorded in the first half of this year. Second on the list is Charolais sire Fiston FSZ. There have been 7,796 AI handheld serves recorded from ‘Fiston’ in beef herds in the first half of 2019. Third on the list is Moondharrig Knell LM4217. ‘Knell’ has 4,626 AI handheld serves recorded in beef herds in the first half of 2019.
