In all 174 Progressive Genetics (NCBC) bulls feature on the Terminal list & 151 on the Replacement list.
Progressive Genetics have 7 of the top 10 Replacement Index sires (priced at €10):
Replacement sire is Beguin SA4059 is number 1 with a Replacement Index of €249, we also have the top Charolais Voimo VMO, top AA KYA, top SH PZT & top Limousin ZAG along with the Limousins ranked 2nd & 3rd Gringo & Frosty, plus the top 2 commercially priced Simmentals Earp SI2469 and Fifty Cent SI2152.
Dairy farmer John P. Galvin milks 80 cows in a compact spring-calving system overlooking the Dingle Peninsula in Kerry.
Galvin’s land goes right down to the Atlantic Ocean and receives 1,600-1,700mm of rainfall on an annual basis.
Last year, John sold 477kg of milk solids from each cow in his herd to the Kerry Group at 4.22% fat and 3.62% protein.
More and more farmers are focusing on sire selection especially when it comes to breeding replacements, matching the bull to the cow (and considering the all important stars in light of the BDGP Scheme, aiming for a replacement index of €74+ in any female progeny).
In many cases, it makes sense for farmers to breed their replacements' out of their top 4 & 5 Star cows and just use a terminal sire on 3 & lower Starred females.
Limousin sires that you should consider using as part of a Replacement team are:

Seamus Knox runs a 150 cow spring-calving Holstein Friesian herd in South Kilkenny. Since the end of quotas the Ballygown herd has increased substantially.
Prior to quota removal, there were 60 cows on the farm and since 2015 cow numbers have increased rapidly.
Cow numbers increased to 90 in 2015, 120 last year and 150 this year and Seamus hopes to milk 160 cows in 2017.
Considering the huge “in house” growth in this herd post-quotas, it is unbelievable that 70% of the cows come from three-cow families.

Husband and wife team, Brian James and Lorna Sixsmith, have a 130-cow spring-calving Holstein Friesian herd.
Based in Garrendenny, Crettyard, Co. Carlow, the couple’s herd increased from 115 cows in 2016. And in recent times, their milking platform has moved from about 49ha to 69ha.
The pair have farmed since 2002, after taking over from Lorna’s father, and farming has been a second career for them both.
The herd is delivering 480kg of milk solids, while maintaining a 365-day calving interval and a 6% empty rate.
"The majority of dairy farmers are still in the middle of the calving season, but their thoughts will soon turn to the next breeding cycle. Martin Ryan spoke to..
"My farming goal is to produce more milk solids per hectare utilising more grazed grass from the milking platform," says Galway dairy farmer, Henry Walsh, who milk almost 300 cows near Oranmore. To achieve his objective, Henry focuses on three goals: to grow and utilise more grass per hectare through better soil fertility;
