New “Milk Value” added to annual report

What is Milk Value?
The Milk value is a Euro value for the cow, group or herds lactation, It is an estimation of the milk cheque value ofthe lactation.


It is calculated using an average milk price for the year, not the actual price paid, so is based on a base price of 0.33 plus VAT using the A + B - C system.

Sexed Semen Sires

We have a wide range of high EBI bulls available as sexed semen. It is important to order sexed semen as early as possible to ensure supply for the 2015 breeding season.

The 2014 season saw a large increase in sexed semen usage following from the 2013 trial. While fertility rates are expected to be lower with sexed semen the experince has mainly been positive. We have endevoured to make our best possible bulls availble as sexed. 

In order to be eligible for sexing a bull must meet strict criteria.

Our New Stars for EBI

Our new Autumn 2014 dairy catalogue is out now and we have a fantastic range of NEW bulls added to the active line up.
These have all been tested through G€NEIR€LAND so have semen fertility data and will have calving surveys in the spring of 2015.

Diamond Andy YAD is the highest EBI newcomer. He is a great yield improver so has a high Production Index. He is easy to use as not related to Oman or LHZ.

Daughter Proven vs Genomic: what should your policy be?

We are often asked if daughter proven bulls are superior to genomic proven ones.

We looked at a situation in which we selected only the highest EBI bulls in each year that were either Genomic (GS), Daughter Proven with Irish daughter (DAU Irl) or Daughter proven with foreign daughters (INT dau). We looked at the top 15 bulls in each category, regardless of breed since 2010 and compared the EBI at the time of selection to the current EBI.
