Recently some members of the Progressive Genetics Salesteam (as well as Munster AI Salespeople & NCBC Salespeople) got to a presentation from Stephen Connolly and visted ABP Food Group’s R&D farm in Clonegal, Co. Carlow which is home to a herd of mainly Angus and Hereford steers and heifers. Established in 2015, the farm is the base for the company’s research on dairy-beef systems. This work is carried out in conjunction with the ICBF (Irish Cattle Breeding Federation) and Teagasc. It’s also ABP’s largest Blade Farming operation in Ireland.
This piece by vet Tommy Heffernan featured in the Farming Independent last year, but is as relevant as ever!
Selective dry Cow Therapy (SDCT) is a process of selecting cows to treat with antibiotics at drying off on an individual cow needs basis. This can be done by carefully planning and using records to select the appropriate cows that need treatment and simply using teat sealants on their own with the rest of the herd.
There are three significant reasons to opt for SDCT.
There have been a number of Pedigree Limousin Sales since March, NCBC (Progressive Genetics & Munster A.I.) sires have featured well.
